Many – most- of my couples prioritize photography for their wedding days and I fully support this decision, however I find that videography often gets pushed off as a priority as many couples opt instead to see where budget lands before making a last minute decision to add video to their wedding day. While photos are essential keepsakes, I find that photo and video are a must-have team, working together to capture the vital story of your wedding day.
Think about the sound of your partner’s voice as they say, “I do,” or the joyful cheers as you walk down the aisle together for the first time. Think about the toast a beloved grandparent gave or the laughter from special guests. This audio and these living memories become more valuable over time. And these moments, complete with the emotions in motion, are the ones you’ll treasure forever.
I hear it all the time – we don’t want a videographer who is going to have a camera in our faces all night. Never fear – a good wedding videographer knows how to quietly capture candid scenes—your parents’ proud smiles, the tear-filled eyes of your best friend, or your grandparents swaying on the dance floor. It’s these spontaneous, unscripted moments that often hold the most meaning. Having them preserved on film allows you to relive them time and time again, experiencing the emotions with fresh eyes each time you watch.
Weddings are often a rare opportunity to gather family and friends in one place. Some of these guests—older relatives or distant friends—might not always be present in your life. A wedding video preserves their presence in a way that a still image cannot. Years down the line, when life changes and loved ones are no longer around, being able to see their faces, hear their voices, and witness their joy can be profoundly comforting.
A video captures more than just the event—it records the people who make your day meaningful. Whether it’s your mom’s proud speech, your sibling’s laughter, or your partner’s happy tears, a video becomes a time capsule of relationships and emotions. Long after the wedding has passed, you’ll have a tangible piece of your loved ones’ spirit and presence that you can revisit whenever you need.
The truth is, your wedding day will go by in a blur. Amid the excitement, you may not fully experience every moment. A videographer ensures that nothing is missed—capturing interactions and moments you may not have witnessed in the whirlwind of the day. That tear your father wiped away during the ceremony, the funny conversation your best friends shared before the reception, or the loving glance exchanged between your grandparents—these moments become part of the story you’ll discover for the first time when watching your wedding video.
Beyond reliving the joy of the day, your wedding video becomes a timeless gift to your future self. Years from now, you can look back on it not just as a record of the event but as a reminder of how much love surrounded you on that day. Watching your wedding video together on anniversaries or sharing it with children or grandchildren adds even more layers of meaning.
Hiring a wedding videographer is an investment in the memories and emotions of your special day. While the flowers will wilt, and the decorations will be taken down, the emotions captured on film will remain vibrant and real. A wedding video isn’t just a luxury—it’s a way of preserving the heart of your wedding day, so that the people, the love, and the joy can be with you always, no matter how much time passes.
